Every year, Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina has an event called “Night of 1000 Candles”. It runs over several weekends, and is a popular holiday event in our area. The gardens were once part of an estate owned by the founder of the A&P grocery store chain. The estate was formed by the purchase of three defunct rice plantations, and is relatively undeveloped. There is a zoo, statue and flower gardens, and a river ride. Across the street from the gardens is Huntington State Park, which was also once part of the estate.
